Sportster frame mod
I was looking at bikes on Yahoo Japan (usually some really cool bikes), and saw this frame mod on a Sportster. It's a neat low-buck idea if you are wanting to give a more sporty look to your Sportster, and still use it 2-up. It looks like they just cut off the stock fender struts, then bent and welded them back on higher up. I really dig it. Click here for more pics of the bike.

Kokomo Automotive Heritage Museum
I took my 4 year old son to the Kokomo Automotive Heritage Museum today. It's a very nice museum, one of several auto museums here in Indiana. Here are a few of my favorite pictures.

The best road food in the world is...
... a Dairy Queen chicken strip basket, with fries, toast and gravy.
Stopped for an early lunch today on the way to Kersting's Cycle Center and Museum.
I'll post a few of my favorites, but to see the complete photo set I took, click here.

garage stuff
I've been going through the XS650 I bought a couple of weekends ago, and am really happy with it so far. The only real hang up I've found is that it needs new cam chain guides. The guides tend to become brittle with age, and break up. It's really amazing they last 30+ years in that environment anyway. The engine will need to come out to remove the top end to replace them, which isn't a big deal in itself, but can lead to the "while I'm in there" syndrome, and cause a small project to turn into a big one. Like, do I sand blast and paint the frame while the engine is out? Go into the bottom end? I'm trying to keep it simple. We'll see.
Here's the bits you'll find in the sump and oil filters when the guides fall apart.
Making slow progress on the XT500. The chassis stuff is almost done, so next wiring, control, body and then get it running.

Aluminum Overcast
I'm just back from seeing the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress "Aluminum Overcast". Just amazing to see, and I'd imagine quite a job to keep something like this airworthy. For more information on the plane, or to check the tour schedule, go here: http://www.b17.org/
