DT1 flat track project

The cases were fairly clean on the inside, but lots of gunk on the outside. I hit them with a pressure washer to knock off the big stuff, and then used diesel fuel to get the rest of the gunk, and then rinsed them off.

Next was to heat the cases in my garage oven at 250 degrees F for about 15 minutes and drive out the bearings.

I then glass beaded them.

I tapped the transmission vent to 1/8" npt so I can replace the stock plastic push-in fitting with a metal fitting. If you see what looks like a crack, that is just a normal part of the casting.

Then a good scrubbing in hot soapy water to lift off and remove any remaining grit or dirt, making sure to get any small oil passages.

And they are clean and ready for reassembly when the new bearings arrive.
